The project “The problem of internal urban displacement generated by public works and the survival of local heritage in Medellín. The case of Line P of the Metro Cable Picacho in the convergence of the Pedregal, Santander and Doce de Octubre neighborhoods "is supported by the National University of Colombia, within the framework of the 2016 national call for Solidarity Extension" Social Innovation for Peace ”, In the modality of social inclusion of vulnerable communities.

It seeks to develop an urban model applied to the development of public policies that includes the valuation of the assets and memories of the community affected by the Metro Cable work. To do this, work is done on the identification of their community structures, the systems of relationships and the identities that make up the place. At the same time, the effects of institutional rhetoric and poetics are analyzed, through the imaginaries of progress, prestige and security. It also seeks to make an inventory of the elements considered as local heritage of the community.

The project is directed by Professor Gilda Wolf Amaya, an architect from the National University and a PhD in Heritage Management and Conservation from the University of Granada, Spain.

The proposal

Large public works that, being planned from a central power, are executed in urban contexts, usually generate impacts that show the constant tension in any regulatory intervention of the space: the benefits perceived by the operation of the work are opposed the uprooting and alienation to which thousands of families are subjected, who give part of their patrimony to give rise to the materialization of the structure.

This project, supported by the 2016 Solidarity Extension call from the National University of Colombia, recognizes the problem posed by internal urban displacement generated by the planning and execution of public works in relation to the survival of those heritage woven from the local. The CuBO.X will permanently expose the progress made in carrying out the project, which specifically analyzes the case of Metro Cable el Picacho in the meeting with the Santander, Doce de Octubre and Pedregal neighborhoods, as well as the investigative interests that this problem arouses. research.
